Types of Dental Bridges
Whenever possible, Dr. Han will recommend one or more dental implants to replace your missing teeth. Using implants, or small metal posts embedded in the jaw, allows us to preserve your healthy teeth and avoid placing crowns. Implants also guard against the bone loss that is linked to missing teeth. Other types of bridges include:
Fixed, traditional bridges are the most common type of bridge. Supported by a tooth on either side of the gap, the pontic is held in place with dental crowns placed over your natural teeth. This bridge is typically made primarily of porcelain.
If there is only one side of the tooth gap that can offer support for the pontic or pontics, you may want to opt for a cantilever bridge instead. This technique can still provide a sturdy, lasting solution to replace a tooth or teeth.
A Maryland bonded bridge is one treatment option to replace a missing tooth in the front of your smile. Instead of requiring the reshaping of your abutment tooth or teeth, the Maryland bridge is secured with metal wings.

The teeth on either side of the gap in your smile will need to be reshaped to support dental crowns.
